Frequently asked questions

Setup, schema output, billing and data — covered below.

How do I install and set up the app?

Install Schema Shield from the Shopify App Store, then complete three steps:

  1. Configure your shipping and return policy settings in the app dashboard.
  2. Use the “Turn on Schema Shield” button on the app dashboard. It opens your theme editor with the app embed already switched on. Shopify requires every merchant to activate an app embed themselves, so this step can’t be skipped — but it’s one click.
  3. Save the theme. Your products start emitting JSON-LD immediately.
Why isn't my schema appearing on product pages?

Work through this checklist — one of these is almost always the cause:

  • Your settings are saved in the app dashboard.
  • Schema Shield is switched on under Theme settings → App embeds.
  • You saved the theme after switching it on.
  • Your subscription is active.

Still stuck? Email us your store URL and a product page link and we'll take a look.

How do I validate my schema markup?

Paste a product page URL into Google's Rich Results Test to confirm the structured data is detected and valid.

The Schema.org validator is a good second check for the raw JSON-LD.

How does billing work?

Schema Shield starts with a 14-day free trial on every plan — long enough for Google to recrawl your product pages. After that, Standard is $14.99/month (or $149/year) for up to 1,000 products, and Plus is $39.99/month (or $399/year) for unlimited products. Annual billing saves two months.

Charges go through Shopify's billing system and appear on your regular Shopify invoice.

You can cancel at any time from your Shopify admin, and uninstalling the app stops billing automatically. See the Terms of Service for the full billing terms.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Your configuration data is deleted within 30 days of uninstalling. Product metafields already written to your products stay on the products but stop being updated.

Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Does this work with all Shopify themes?

Yes. Schema Shield is an app embed, which every Shopify theme supports — including vintage themes that predate Online Store 2.0. You switch it on from Theme settings → App embeds rather than adding a block to a section.

How many products does my plan cover?

Standard covers up to 1,000 products and Plus covers unlimited products. Pricing follows catalog size because that is what drives the work: Schema Shield writes schema data to every product individually.

If you outgrow your plan we flag it on your dashboard and keep publishing your whole catalog for another 14 days, so a bulk import never breaks anything mid-way.

After that, Schema Shield publishes shipping, return and FAQ data for your oldest products up to your plan's limit, and skips the rest. Skipped products still show the basic product details your theme publishes — they just lose the extra data Schema Shield adds. Moving to Plus restores them.

Will this slow down my store?

No. JSON-LD is a small block of text in the page source with no scripts, images or render-blocking assets, so it has no measurable effect on page load times.
